WTW is an award-winning advisory, broking, and solutions company that supports clients worldwide in transforming risk into opportunities for growth. With a rich insurance heritage dating back to 1828, from the Titanic in 1912 to the Moon Buggy in 1971, WTW brings deep industry expertise and longstanding experience.

Our WTW Regional Delivery Center, based in the heart of Lisbon, brings together a strong global team of more than 450 colleagues who deliver operational excellence every day through innovation and streamlined, efficient solutions.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced AI Tech Lead to set the technical direction for AI solutions in the Retirement AI & Automation CoE.

You will lead the design of AI solutions end-to-end, from architecture and prototyping through engineering and production, and set the patterns, standards and reviews that let the team build safely and at scale.

Our team has a strong background in low-code automation and programming. You will help it grow into a blended AI and automation capability, mentoring engineers and working closely with business stakeholders across GB, Europe, North America and International markets.

What you will do

AI solution architecture & technical leadership

  • Lead the technical design of AI initiatives end-to-end, from architecture and prototyping to production deployment;

  • Design scalable Generative AI and agentic solutions (RAG, AI agents, prompt engineering, multi-modal AI) using Microsoft Foundry, Azure and other approved WTW platforms;

  • Decide where AI, low-code automation (e.g. Power Platform) or conventional code is the right answer, and combine them where this adds value;

  • Design how AI solutions use enterprise data, including Microsoft Fabric and Fabric IQ, with the right security and access controls;

Engineering standards, reuse & governance

  • Create reusable AI blueprints, architecture patterns, components and technical guidelines that speed up delivery;

  • Define how the team designs, versions, tests and shares agent skills across Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry, and grow them into a reusable library;

  • Set consistent practices for code quality, testing, evaluation, documentation, deployment and monitoring;

  • Own the platform foundations: environments, CI/CD, security and cost control;

  • Embed WTW security, Responsible AI and governance requirements into architecture and development practices;

  • Provide technical review and challenge on solution designs, code and production readiness;

Stakeholders & capability development

  • Give technical input into feasibility assessments, prioritization and portfolio planning with CoE leadership;

  • Explain technical decisions, dependencies, trade-offs and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders;

  • Mentor engineers, including colleagues moving from automation into AI, and act as the technical point of reference for complex delivery challenges.

Qualifications

What we are looking for

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience;

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML engineering, low-code automation or solution architecture, including 2+ years of hands-on Generative AI delivery and technical leadership at team level;

  • Hands-on experience designing and delivering Generative AI solutions in production (LLMs, RAG, AI agents, evaluation);

  • Strong programming skills in Python; C#/.NET, TypeScript or similar languages are a plus;

  • Proven experience with cloud platforms, with Microsoft Azure strongly preferred;

  • Experience with data engineering and integration, e.g. APIs, event-driven architecture, message queues, databases and data pipelines;

  • Experience defining architecture standards, AI governance or engineering practices at team or department level;

  • Familiarity with secure AI design, Responsible AI practices and AI risk management;

  • Proven ability to mentor and guide colleagues and promote knowledge sharing;

  • Excellent written and spoken English (mandatory), with the professional maturity to present to senior stakeholders.

What will make you stand out

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Foundry (formerly Azure AI Foundry / Azure AI Studio) and Azure OpenAI;

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Fabric IQ;

  • Experience designing Agent Skills (SKILL.md) or similar reusable agent capabilities;

  • A background in low-code automation (Power Platform, Copilot Studio) or programming, and experience moving automation work into AI;

  • Knowledge of retirement, pensions or financial services.
