Description
We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Claims Advisor with experience across financial lines insurance to join the Australian Claims Team. This role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or Perth and may require occasional interstate travel based on client and business needs.
As a Senior Claims Advisor, you will be responsible for claims advocacy for national clients through the provision of technical advice and support throughout the claims process and, where necessary, commercial settlement negotiations directly with insurers. You will have a strong focus on client service, fostering relationships, and providing pragmatic guidance. You will act as an advocate for all financial lines (Finex) claims classes including professional indemnity, cyber liability, management liability, employment practices liability, medical malpractice, Directors & Officers, Warranties & Indemnities (M&A) and statutory liability.
The Senior Claims Advisor will be part of a dynamic global claims team and will liaise as required with global WTW counterparts, proactively managing claims for risks placed in the Australian and international markets.
The Role
- Responsibility for management of a portfolio of claims across financial lines insurance
- Provision of advice, reporting, and support to clients from notification to the negotiation and settlement of a loss (partnering with the client advocate broker as required)
- Working with and guiding client advocate brokers to explain and manage clients’ expectations of their claims experience throughout the life of a claim
- Meeting with clients and prospective clients to support the client and client advocate broker at all stages of the insurance cycle, and to demonstrate technical claims management expertise
- Negotiating for clients with insurers and/or insurer-appointed representatives (e.g. panel lawyers)
- Engaging with all relevant parties to resolve coverage disputes
- Providing claims advice to clients and internal stakeholders for specific financial lines classes and industry-specific clients
- Conducting and facilitating claims reviews (online/onsite) and periodic legacy claims audit/review
- Collaborating on client tender processes (Request for Proposal) to provide claims specific input, working with the client advocate broker and meeting with prospective clients as required
- Providing technical expertise and mentoring to assist team development
- Working collaboratively with the National Finex claims Leader and team members to support the management of client claim portfolios
- Contributing to thought leadership for internal and client education

Qualifications
The Requirements
- Law Degree or equivalent formal qualification would be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite
- Cert IV in general insurance and Diploma qualification (or equivalent experience) would be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite
- Holder of all regulatory licenses, permissions and technical or other requirements applicable under local legislation
- Demonstrated claims experience in financial lines insurance classes - how senior?
- Seeking highly organised, detail focused individual who takes pride in their work
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and demonstrated client focus
- Strong ability to build and manage relationships
- Sound ability to facilitate and deliver training and presentations
- Knowledge of insurance regulations, codes and legislation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Some travel will be required, and you are required to have a valid and appropriate driver’s licence
