When Pham Truc Quynh joined WTW as an intern, she saw the opportunity as much more than a steppingstone into the workplace. She was looking for an environment that would help her build a strong professional foundation, develop industry knowledge and learn from experienced professionals, while gaining exposure to important work from the start.
Reflecting on her decision to join our organization , Quynh explains, "I chose to apply for the internship at WTW because I saw it as more than just an opportunity to gain work experience. The program provides early-career talent with a professional environment to develop strong workplace skills, while also offering a structured training and development pathway in the insurance industry."
Today, Quynh works within Corporate Risk & Broking (CRB), supporting the team through quotation preparation, market research, document review and stakeholder coordination to help meet client needs. Through her experience, she has developed both technical expertise and a deeper understanding of the insurance industry while building confidence in her professional abilities.
Learning through real-world experience
One of the most rewarding aspects of Quynh's role has been the opportunity to work on projects that helped her gain hands-on experience with major client accounts.
"What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to take on major accounts and learn through real-life experience," she says. "Being involved in challenging work and receiving on-the-job training has allowed me to develop much faster than I expected."
Alongside this exposure, the encouragement and support she has received from colleagues and managers have played a significant part in her growth.
"I have also been fortunate to receive a great deal of encouragement and support from my managers and colleagues, which gives me the confidence to take on new challenges and continuously improve."
From challenges to opportunity
Like many early-career professionals, Quynh faced challenges as she adapted to a fast-paced environment and learned how to balance competing requests.
"One of the most challenging parts was learning how to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy," she explains. "In insurance broking, even small details can matter, so I had to learn how to organize my work, prioritize tasks and double-check information carefully."
Over time, these experiences helped her become more structured, organized and confident in managing her workload.
"When handling multiple tasks, I learned to prioritize them based on both deadlines and importance, while setting clear timelines for each task to make sure nothing is missed," she says. "I also make it a habit to communicate proactively with my colleagues and keep them updated on my progress."
Growth through colleague expertise
Mentorship has been a key part of Quynh's development. Through conversations with managers and colleagues, she gained a broader understanding of both the industry and the purpose behind the work she performs every day.
"The mentorship I received helped me understand that work is not simply about following rules, processes or completing tasks, but also about understanding the bigger picture and the reasons behind each decision," she says.
The guidance she received not only strengthened her technical knowledge but also helped her develop a stronger professional mindset and a more mature perspective on the insurance industry.
One of the most valuable lessons she learned during the program was the importance of maintaining a growth mindset.
"Being new to something does not mean you are not capable, it simply means you have more to learn," she explains. "I learned to be proactive in asking questions, humble enough to listen and open to learning from those around me."
Recommendations for interns
"Do not be afraid of not knowing everything from the beginning," Quynh says. "Stay curious, ask questions and be humble enough to learn from the people around you. An early-career opportunity is not about having all the answers from day one, but about being willing to learn, grow and make the most of every opportunity along the way."
