When Ara Lumugdan joined WTW in the Philippines, she was attracted by the company’s strong reputation, opportunities for learning and clear pathways for career development. As someone looking to build a long-term career in actuarial consulting, WTW offered the chance to develop technical skills while gaining valuable experience.

Progressing through shared ideas and experiences

Despite entering a highly technical field, Ara quickly found herself surrounded by colleagues who were approachable and willing to share their knowledge. This welcoming environment helped her build confidence and settle into her role while continuing to develop her skills.

Today, Ara works as an Actuarial Valuation Analyst, supporting a range of actuarial projects and client work by analyzing data and risk levels for an organization. Through hands-on experience and exposure to different areas of the business, she has been able to deepen her technical knowledge while gaining a broader understanding of the industry.

Taking on new challenges and responsibilities

Since joining our teams, Ara’s role has evolved as she has taken on greater responsibilities and increased client exposure. With each new project, she has had opportunities to expand her expertise and build confidence in applying her knowledge to real-world challenges.

One of the aspects she enjoys most about her role is the opportunity to continuously learn. Whether developing new technical capabilities or partnering with colleagues across the business, every experience contributes to her professional growth.

Like many early career professionals, Ara has discovered that growth often comes with new challenges. Managing deadlines alongside complex technical work requires strong organization, adaptability, and attention to detail. These experiences have helped her develop valuable skills that continue to support her career progression.

Building confidence through new certificates and skills

Professional development has been a key part of Ara’s experience. Help for actuarial exams and professional qualifications has enabled her to continue building her expertise while progressing towards her long-term career goals.

Equally important has been the guidance she received through mentorship. Regular feedback, advice, and encouragement from experienced colleagues helped her navigate challenges, develop confidence in her abilities, and gain a deeper understanding of what success looks like in the profession.

Reflecting on her experience, Ara believes some of the most valuable lessons she has learned center around “The importance of communication, teamwork, and continuous learning as well as being proactive, staying curious and taking full advantage of learning opportunities.”
