How you will create value from risk for our clients

Based in Tokyo, Japan and working alongside our regional ER&A team of risk engineers, consultants, actuaries, accountants and climate specialists, this role focuses on creating value for our clients by enhancing their approach to risk and becoming a trusted advisor.

The role will involve conducting Construction and Operational insurable risk surveys for a wide range of Japan and regional clients and providing risk & insurance advisory, risk assessments, risk engineering, data analytics, loss prevention and technical claims support. The role will involve managing accounts for large domestic and multi-national organizations and requires a thorough knowledge of Highly Protected Risk (HPR) property protection practices, international codes & standards, fire and life safety systems plus an understanding of project and construction risk management techniques.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Design and arrange detailed Risk Engineering services through discussions with WTW account teams, clients and underwriter engineers. 
  • Coordinate, manage and/or lead the execution of both Construction and Operational underwriting surveys to the satisfaction of clients and insurers.
  • Prepare Construction and Operational underwriting information and risk profile reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programs.  Reports will contain understanding, assessment and opinion of key hazards at projects/facilities and how clients’ management team are controlling/mitigating their impact.
  • Develop risk improvement recommendations that are clear, appropriate and are fairly balanced between the interests of clients and insurers.
  • Prepare calculations of various worst case loss scenarios within company guidelines across a range of industries and insurance lines.
  • Ensure that all reports and other deliverables are prepared to quality standards and in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients and the WTW broking team(s) across a range of risk issues relating to good industry practices.
  • Forensic analysis of client insurance claims to identify the cause and where necessary, lead the technical aspect of the investigation, calling in other expert support and liaising with claims advocates to ensure full and timely settlement
  • Working with the wider regional ER&A team, to assess, discuss, coordinate and deliver risk engineering and strategic consulting services for construction and operational clients/prospects in the Philippines and their wider regional/global asset portfolios.
  • Input into and maintain all risk management team tracking and management information tools.
  • Maintain technical competency in key industrial sectors and hazards whilst keeping personal knowledge up to date with risk management developments (e.g. attend seminars, review technical publications, etc.).
  • Represent WTW professionally on business trips and in meetings.
  • Comply with all WTW company policies (e.g. Travel, Ethics, etc.).
  • Any other duties commensurate with position or level of responsibility.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Relevant industry experience with a broad range of design, construction, operations and/or risk consulting experience to senior level within Asia
  • High level of Risk Engineering technical expertise in HPR, Fire and Life safety protection standards and techniques
  • Degree (or equivalent) and risk management qualifications and/or relevant accreditations
  • Self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels – from site technicians up to company CEOs
  • Proven ability to write detailed reports in English of a varied technical nature
  • Experience of carrying out construction/property risk surveys
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Asian, NFPA, FM and other international property conservation codes
  • Knowledge of NATCAT risks and mitigation standards
  • Multiple language skills would be a bonus
