    Description

    The Senior Marine Claims Specialist is part of the Marine Claims Advocacy group and responsible for timely and professional assistance and support including analysis, reporting and advocacy of current, future or potential claims. This position acts as an advocate and claims specialist and maintains positive relations with co-workers, claimants, producers, account executives, account managers, and carriers. 

    The Role:

    Performance Objectives:

     

    • Responsible for evaluation and direct handling of first party Hull & Machinery and Third-Party Marine Liability (Marine General Liability, P&I, Marine Terminal Operators Liability, etc.) claims. 
    • Support Marine Claims Head in managing large losses within Hull & Liability lines of business. 
    • Review the facts of the claim in light of the policy terms and conditions
    • Provide guidance to the Assured regarding the claims process and what information and documentation is necessary to get the claim moving in the right direction. 
    • Report claims to the relevant Underwriters including any following markets and excess underwriters as and where appropriate.
    • Instruct surveyors and other experts as and where appropriate. 
    • Maintain regular diary for follow up with Assured, underwriters, and surveyors as necessary.
    • Communicate with the Assured to obtain the information and documentation necessary to bring the claim to resolution. 
    • Draft presentation of claim for submittal to Underwriters on Hull & Machinery claims as well as liability claims. 
    • Maintain and update loss records, providing same to placing team when and as required
    • Function as a resource on Shipowner’s accounts within the practice; participate in client communications/conference calls/meetings and provide technical expertise

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

     

    • High school diploma required. College degree preferred
    • More than 7 years insurance claims experience
    • direct marine hull and liability claims experience 
    • Insurance broker’s P&C license required
    • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite effectively, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics CRM is helpful
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with a track record of success working against tight deadlines
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others 
    • Must demonstrate attention to detail
    • Ability to conduct research

    Compensation
    The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $125,000 - $150,000 USD per year. This role is also eligible for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
