The Role 

Senior Property Placement Broker 

 

The Senior Property Placement Broker is a senior specialist within the Willis South Africa Property Placement Team and is responsible for the design, placement and negotiation of complex Property Insurance programmes for large corporate, mining and multinational clients. 

The role acts as a technical and market-facing leader, providing strategic advice on risk transfer solutions, developing bespoke policy wordings, negotiating optimal placement structures and supporting business growth initiatives across the South African operation. 

The successful candidate will maintain and leverage strong insurer and reinsurance market relationships, provide technical leadership to colleagues and represent Willis in high-level client engagements including renewal strategy, new business pursuits and due diligence projects. 

The role Essential accountabilities include but are not limited to: 

· Lead a co-ordinated placement strategy for complex and high-value Property risks with wholesale and facultative reinsurance brokers 

· Develop and maintain senior relationships with local and international insurers. · Keep updated on market developments and solutions in order to identify and develop optimum solutions for clients · Support revenue growth through cross-selling and participation in new business opportunities.

 · Act as lead technical resource on complex Property claims and coverage discussions where required. 

· Collaborate with regional and global Willis colleagues on multinational programme design and placement. 

· Drive placement excellence and continuous improvement within the Property Practice. 

· Contribute to the development of proprietary Willis products, policy wordings and market solutions. 

· Contribute to business development activities, including client pitches, RFP responses, prospect meetings and market presentations. 

· Continuous development of technical skills 

· Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentorship to brokers and account executives, ensuring the development of Property market expertise 

· Adherence to Willis operating standards 

· Acting as a subject matter expert and providing advisory services internally & externally 

Qualifications

The Requirements 

 

· Minimum 10–15 years of insurance broking experience, with significant expertise in the placement of large corporate and multinational Property programmes. 

· Demonstrated experience leading placements for mining, industrial, infrastructure and multinational clients, including complex and layered programmes. 

· Established relationships with key South African insurers and a strong understanding of international insurance and reinsurance markets. 

· Proven negotiation skills across complex placements. 

· Ability to influence senior stakeholders internally and externally. 

· Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with CFO, Risk Manager and Board-level client representatives. 

· Strong presentation and communication skills. 

· South African Citizen 

· FAIS compliant: RE5 as well as 120 credits at NQF level 5 (or relevant degree) 

· Relevant tertiary qualifications in Insurance, Risk Management, Commerce, Law or related discipline will be advantageous. 

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities 

· Experience in drafting and negotiating bespoke Assets All Risks policies for large corporate clients 

· Passion for excellence and detail orientation 

· An effective team player 

· A focus on customer service as a key deliverable is essential 

· High level of comfort presenting directly to C-Suite clients
