A dynamic team: no two days are the same

One of the most dynamic aspects of working in client service consulting is that there’s no typical day.

Jason Mahler

“One of the things I love is the in-office collaboration. It’s not just about scheduled meetings—it’s those informal conversations that help us learn and grow.” – Jason Mahler

For those in global benefits, the challenge is even more unique.

“On the global side, we work across different time zones, which encourages us to be efficient and proactive.” – Sarah Gurrib

Key skills for success: what the team has learned

When asked about the most valuable skills and experiences that shaped their careers, the team shared insights that are relevant for anyone considering a role in consulting and benefits management.

Embrace new challenges

“Early in my career, I was uncomfortable with public speaking, until I faced the challenge to present at a client event. That experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, and now it’s a skill I rely on every day.” – Jason Mahler

Collaboration is Key

“Delivering great work isn’t just about focusing on your own tasks—it’s about supporting your team. The best consultants understand that success is a team effort.” – Sarah

Build meaningful relationships

“Relationship-building—both internally and externally—is one of the most important skills in this industry. Whether it’s with clients or carrier partners, strong relationships help drive success.” – Ron

For those new to the industry, these insights highlight the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and continuous learning.

One of the defining aspects of the H&B CST team is the strong culture of collaboration, the knowledge-sharing and the adaptation to each client’s needs.

“Unlike rigid teams where roles remain static, here our team members are staffed on client projects based on their strengths and expertise. We staff clients based on the perceptions of their needs.” – Jason

For Sarah, the way leaders acknowledge members strengths makes all the difference:

“Our leaders carefully match each team member’s strengths with the right clients, ensuring not only the best outcomes but also an engaging and fulfilling work environment.” – Sarah

Additionally, team dynamics are built on mutual support and mentorship.

“Being able to turn to colleagues for guidance, whether they’ve been here for years or just a few months, is incredibly valuable.  Everyone is incredibly helpful” – Ron Branch

These mentorship and development opportunities create an environment where professionals at all levels feel empowered to grow.

“We’re not just analyzing what exists today—we’re working on pushing the market toward better solutions for the future.” – Jason Mahler
