Zikry Bin Sabarudin is a Broker in WTW Singapore’s Corporate Risk and Broking’s Asia Regional Construction team. He joined our Graduate Program looking for a role that was different from his academic background, but still closely connected and allowed him to apply his knowledge in a meaningful way.

Applying construction knowledge in a new industry

Coming from a construction academic background, Zikry was interested in a role that would allow him to leverage what he had learned while exploring a different industry. Joining the regional construction team gave Zikry the opportunity to apply his existing knowledge in a role that is different from a traditional construction path.

Feeling welcomed

What surprised Zikry most when he joined WTW was how approachable everyone was. During his first few days, he took part in casual catch‑up sessions and lunches with senior colleagues who were eager to share their experience and insights. These early interactions helped him feel comfortable and quickly feel like part of the company.

Building confidence through hands‑on broking

When Zikry first joined the team, much of his work focused on supporting senior brokers. This included drafting slips and policies and maintaining the team’s resource library. Over time, his role evolved and he began taking on more direct broking responsibilities. Today, he engages in discussions and negotiations with underwriters, local offices and clients. In addition to these front‑facing tasks, Zikry now manages multiple pipelines across the team and works with multiple local offices. He is also involved in data extraction and management to support these pipelines, giving him broader exposure to how the team operates across the region.

Learning through diversity and challenge

What Zikry enjoys most about his role is the variety. Each construction project is different, bringing new technologies, construction methods and, at times, local geopolitical considerations that can affect project outcomes. This constant change keeps the work interesting and ensures there is always something new to learn. This dynamic structure can also be challenging. With each project being unique, there is often a large amount of information to absorb, especially when working with tight deadlines. While this can feel overwhelming at times, Zikry sees it as an important part of his learning and development.

Help that makes a difference

Zikry completed the Certificate in General Insurance with the support of WTW, which helped him build a strong foundation in the insurance industry. To navigate through workload management, Zikry also uses Copilot, which has helped make everyday tasks more efficient and easier to manage. He also values the patience and understanding of senior colleagues who take time to guide him and answer questions as he continues to learn. Zikry’s advice to future graduates is simple. Go for it. He believes WTW offers exposure across many sectors, strong learning opportunities and a supportive environment where people are always willing to help.
