    Description

    Our Health and Benefits business helps large and mid-size clients control health and welfare plan costs, improve health outcomes, and promote employee engagement through broad-based, state-of-the-art interventions. We provide solutions encompassing creative plan design, vendor evaluation and management, pricing and funding strategies, data analytics, valuation support, legal compliance and governance strategies. We also provide Specialty consulting services including clinical/health management program design, pharmacy solutions, disability/absence management strategies and claims audit services. Product based solutions such as our pharmacy purchasing coalition round out our broad-based suite of offerings. 

    The Role 

    As a Senior Actuarial Analyst, you will have the opportunity to use statistical modeling to analyze data relating to mortality, retirement, finance, etc. Other responsibilities include reporting to actuaries and senior management, providing technical support, and verifying the validity of data sources. Successful candidates will be those who demonstrate exceptional critical thinking, possess a working knowledge of statistical analysis software, and can communicate complex statistical findings in an easy-to-understand way.

    The Global Delivery Center (GDC) is an internal service center within the Manila Global Service Delivery that provides high quality and efficient international benefits business support on both a global and local level. 

    To support the delivery of that strategy, you will do the following for:

    Actuarial Modeling

    • Develop and maintain statistical/actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and other financial projections
    • Assist in developing assumptions and parameters used in actuarial models
    • Analyze data to identify trends and develop insights that will inform business decisions
    • Develop and implement new methods of analysis to improve the accuracy of results
    • Prepare reports on findings and present them to senior management
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely completion of projects
    • Monitor industry developments and changes in regulations to ensure compliance
    • Provide technical support to other teams as needed
    • Perform ad-hoc analyses as requested by senior management
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant software applications
    • Stay abreast of current best practices in the field

    Retirement

    • Prepare valuations of pension plans and retiree welfare plans for consulting offices
    • Respond to queries from consultants with respect to plan provisions and valuation results and resolve/escalate any problems or issues
    • Complete work in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations applicable to the plan
    • Utilize detailed tasks and steps to produce quality projects
    • Complete analysis and reconciliations of plan participant data
    • Reconcile plan assets
    • Manages the timeline for some small projects or components of larger projects.
    • Performs technical review of standard/complex projects.
    • Identifies and communicates technical/analytical issues to project teams.
    • Supervises new hires and less-experienced associates on project basis.
    • Allocates/co-ordinates work among project hires, interns and new associates
    • Actively participate in team and project planning and suggests improvements based on observed best practices.
    • Serve as primary doer and liaise effectively with consultants and actuaries regarding data collection and project execution required for global accounting consolidation projects
    • Prepare the first draft of deliverables for review by the consultant in accordance to project deadlines

    In addition to this, you will:

    • Attend training, meetings and/other educational events to increase understanding of trends, regulations and developments in the market
    • Develop an awareness of the insurance carrier and vendor marketplace 
    • Understand and effectively articulate carrier / vendor specific strengths and weaknesses 
    • Maintain and cultivate strong carrier relationships to enhance WTW’s position in the marketplace 
    • Receive training from experienced consultants and assist to review client needs 
    • Comply with internal excellence and compliance requirements 
    • Contribute to the development of new intellectual capital
    • Work with Operations Leadership to ensure compliance to SLAs and KPIs
    • Work on a Process SME assisting the team for service delivery operations
    • Support issue / escalation management
    • Participate in continuous improvement activities to build stakeholders’ confidence
    • Help drive adherence to Professional Excellence and Quality Management requirements
    • Help drive adherence to client, local and international compliance requirements

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a program with heavy emphasis on Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics
    • 3+ years’ experience in an Actuarial role in life and/or health insurance, or retirement/pension lines
    • Continuous improvement mindset – increasing task efficiency and effectiveness with each product or service repetition 
    • Proficient in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Well organized and detail oriented
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and produce quality deliverables on time
    • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex issues
    • Strong client service orientation and ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner
    • Open to be assigned to mid-shift

    • Self-starter attitude with ability to establish priorities, work independently and with limited supervision
    • Ability to ask the right questions and seek help where appropriate
    • Sense of accountability; owning one’s work and taking pride in it

    Technical Skills and Experience:

    • Strong analytical, creative and integrative skills
    • Experience with data entry, validation and manipulation 
    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint
    • Ability to review and check data against subject domain knowledge (e.g., health and group benefits) and understand the data’s applicability/accuracy for the designated purpose
