Summary
We are seeking a skilled Azure Engineer to join our Cloud Support team.
In this role you will provide operational support to our Azure environment, focusing on –
- IaaS based application hosting.
- Infrastructure reliability,
- PaaS database management (primarily Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and related services)
- Incident resolution
- Resolution of Security issues
- Continuous “cost optimization”
You will work closely with application teams, DevOps, finance, and security stakeholders to maintain high availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency in a production cloud environment.
This is a hands-on support and optimization position — ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting real-world issues while proactively driving down cloud spend.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide **tier 2/3 support** for Azure IaaS and PaaS workloads: investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents and service requests related to Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets, Azure Storage, Networking (VNet, NSG (Network Security Group), Load Balancers, Application Gateway), VPN/ExpressRoute connectivity, and related components.
- Administer and support **PaaS databases** including Azure SQL Database (single / elastic pools / hyperscale), Azure SQL Managed Instance, and occasionally Azure Cosmos DB or other data services: performance tuning, high-availability configuration (failover groups, geo-replication), backup/restore operations, monitoring, and query optimization.
- Monitor Azure environments using **Azure Monitor**, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Azure Advisor to identify performance bottlenecks, availability risks, and cost anomalies.
- Drive **cost optimization** initiatives:
- Analyze spend using **Azure Cost Management + Billing**, Cost Analysis, and Cost Management exports.
- Identify and implement savings opportunities: right-sizing VMs and databases, Reserved Instances / Savings Plans purchase recommendations, spot instances where appropriate, auto-scaling policies, shutdown schedules for non-prod, storage tiering, and eliminating idle resources.
- Create and maintain budgets, alerts, and cost allocation tags; produce regular cost reports and optimization recommendations for leadership.
- Implement and maintain **Infrastructure as Code (IaC)** where needed for operational consistency (ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform) — particularly for repeatable fixes, new resource patterns, or cost-related automations.
- Participate in **on-call rotation** (if applicable) to ensure 24×7 support for critical production systems.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to enforce policies (Azure Policy, RBAC, Defender for Cloud) and remediate findings.
- Document runbooks, incident root causes, optimization actions, and best practices to improve team knowledge and reduce repeat incidents.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of support processes, monitoring coverage, and cost governance.
- Resolution of Security Issues (Defender, Vulnerabilities, Patching)
- Resolution of identified policy changes
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 3–6+ years of hands-on experience supporting or engineering Microsoft Azure environments.
- Strong practical experience with **Azure IaaS** (VMs (Virtual Machine), networking, storage) and **PaaS databases** (Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance — performance tuning, HA/DR, scaling).
- Demonstrated success in **cloud cost optimization** — experience using Azure Cost Management tools, identifying savings, and implementing Reserved Instances / Savings Plans.
- Solid understanding of Azure monitoring stack (**Azure Monitor**, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Advisor).
- Experience troubleshooting production incidents involving compute, networking, and database services.
- Proficiency in at least one IaC tool (Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform) and PowerShell / Azure CLI scripting.
- Familiarity with Azure security features (RBAC, Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, NSGs, firewalls).
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Azure certifications: AZ-104 (Azure Administrator), AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect), AZ-500 (Security), or DP-300 (Azure Database Administrator).
- Experience with Azure SQL (Structured Query Language) Managed Instance migration / administration.
- Knowledge of Azure networking advanced topics (Hub-Spoke, NVA (Network Virtual Appliance), Private Link, DDoS protection).
- Exposure to Azure Automation, Runbooks, or Logic Apps for operational automation.
- Basic understanding of container services (AKS) or App Services (bonus, not core).
- Familiarity with FinOps principles and cloud cost allocation tagging strategies.
The Application Process
- Stage 1: Online application review
- Stage 2: Pre-recorded video screening
- Stage 2: Live video or in-person interview (round 1)
- Stage 4: Live video or in-person interview (round 2)
