Career breaks are often described as pauses. But for many professionals, they are chapters of personal growth that shape you in new ways.
After a two‑year maternity break, Pooja stood at a familiar crossroads: ready to return but thoughtful about where and how she wanted to restart her career.

What she found at WTW was an opportunity to come back to work and the space to move forward with confidence, purpose, and trust.
We asked her about what motivated her to restart, how she experienced her return to work and what she’d say to others standing at the edge of a comeback.

What motivated you to return to work after your career break?

"After my maternity break, I felt ready to re‑engage with meaningful work and step back into leadership. Motherhood gave me a new perspective. It strengthened my ability to prioritize, stay calm under pressure and make clear decisions, all of which have made me a stronger leader in finance operations. I wanted to return with purpose, not just to resume work but to create impact again."

What made WTW feel like the right place to restart your career?

"From the beginning, WTW stood out because of its supportive and inclusive culture. It was clear that this was a place that values returning talent, invests in leaders and creates space to contribute from day one. I wasn’t made to feel like I was starting over. Instead, I felt trusted and welcomed, which gave me confidence that I could restart my career with impact."

How did WTW support your transition back into work?

"The support I received was meaningful on every level. I stepped into a Finance Team Lead role with a structured and thoughtful ramp‑up plan. Clear expectations, open communication and regular check‑ins with my manager helped me reconnect quickly with key processes, metrics and business priorities.

On a personal level, there was genuine empathy. Flexibility in my schedule, understanding the realities of parenthood and a culture that encouraged well‑being made a huge difference. I felt valued as a person, not just as an employee. That trust allowed me to lead with confidence without feeling rushed."

Can you share a moment when you felt truly valued after returning?

"It was in everyday moments. Being asked for my input, having my judgment trusted and being encouraged to ease back in at a pace that felt right. Those moments reassured me that my experience still mattered and that I belonged here. The trust I received helped me regain confidence naturally."

What kind of flexibility or learning support helped you regain momentum?

"What stood out most was how approachable my manager and team were. Regular check‑ins, openness to questions and encouragement made me feel supported both as a professional and as a new parent. Access to learning resources and guidance from peers helped me refresh my knowledge and gradually expand my responsibilities."

What would you say to someone considering returning to work and wanting to join WTW?

"The skills you gain during a career break - resilience, adaptability and prioritization, are real strengths. Your break doesn’t diminish your value. It adds perspective. Taking the first step back can feel intimidating, but it’s also incredibly empowering, if you’re backed by a company like WTW. Here you’ll find a culture that understands life transitions, supports growth and encourages you to bring your authentic self to work.
