Ask people what shaped their careers most, and it’s rarely a single promotion or title change. More often, it’s the projects that tested them, the leaders who challenged them and the moments where they chose to step into something unfamiliar.
That mindset has played a major role in Veronica’s journey at WTW.
Five years ago, she joined the company drawn by the opportunity to work at global scale while staying close to the people locally. Today, as Recruitment Director, she helps shape hiring strategies across multiple regions, partnering with leaders and teams navigating fast-changing business landscapes.
But her progression wasn’t built on titles alone. It came from embracing complexity, leading through change and staying open to challenges that pushed her outside her comfort zone.
From recruiter to strategic leader
For Veronica, the decision to join WTW was driven by more than the scale of the organization. It was the combination of purpose, complexity and partnership that stood out from the beginning.
“When I first considered WTW, I was attracted by the combination of scale and purpose. It was clear that this was an organization with strong intellectual capital, a global footprint, and a genuine commitment to helping clients navigate complex people and risk challenges. From a recruitment perspective, I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to work closely with the business, not just as a service function but as a strategic partner.”
That early impression quickly became reality.
While many organizations speak about collaboration and empowerment, Veronica experienced it firsthand from the moment she joined. Across teams, regions and functions, she found an environment where people were trusted to take ownership and encouraged to contribute beyond the boundaries of their role.
“My expectations were largely confirmed, and in some aspects, exceeded. What stood out early on was the level of trust and autonomy given to people, along with a very collaborative culture across regions and functions. The reality of working at WTW is dynamic and demanding, but also supportive.”
The challenge that changed everything
Career-defining moments rarely arrive neatly packaged. More often, they emerge during periods of uncertainty, complexity or change.
For Veronica, one of those moments came while leading a multi-country recruitment plan during a period of major transformation. It became a turning point.
“One defining experience was leading recruitment of a multi-country recruitment plan during a period of significant organizational change. It required aligning diverse stakeholders, navigating different market dynamics, and delivering against ambitious timelines.
What began as a complex challenge became a real turning point: not only did we deliver strong results for the business, but it also strengthened the role of Recruitment as a strategic partner.”
That experience helped shape the next stage of her career and ultimately contributed to her progression into her current role as Recruitment Director.
Building a career without standing still
One of the reasons Veronica has continued building her career at WTW for the past five years is the ability to keep evolving without needing to leave the organization to find new opportunities.
Throughout her journey, she has expanded her responsibilities across Europe and CEEMEA, worked alongside senior stakeholders and continuously stepped into broader, more strategic work. For her, development is not treated as a milestone to complete, but as an ongoing process.
“WTW encourages long-term careers by actively investing in its people. Development is not approached as a one off event, but as a continuous journey.”
Leadership that creates opportunity
Behind many successful careers are leaders who create room for people to stretch, contribute and prepare for what comes next. Veronica credits much of her development to managers who encouraged open conversations about ambition and trusted her with opportunities that pushed her beyond her comfort zone.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with leaders who genuinely care about development and succession. I’ve always felt encouraged to be open about my aspirations and to take on stretch opportunities.”
Those conversations, combined with consistent feedback, helped her gain clarity about the direction she wanted her career to take.
Advice for future colleagues
After five years of continuous progression, Veronica’s advice to anyone considering a career at WTW is simple: “My advice would be to come with curiosity, ambition, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone.”
Because here, opportunities are there for people who actively seek them out and stay open to experiences that stretch their capabilities.
And for Veronica, that mindset transformed a recruiter role into a leadership career spanning multiple markets, strategic initiatives and lasting impact.
“If you are looking for a place where you can build a meaningful, long-term career while working with talented and committed colleagues, WTW is a great choice.”
