Celebrating Laura Samaroo’s 35-year journey at WTW

Jul 31 2025

From intern to Canadian Leader, Laura Samaroo’s remarkable 35-year career at WTW is a story of transformation, mentorship, and lasting relationships.

From intern to leader: a career built at WTW

Laura’s journey began as a summer intern in the Retirement business. Fresh out of university and eager to learn, she was inspired by the smart, impressive colleagues she encountered from day one. That early experience set the tone for a career defined by continuous learning and growth.
Over the years, Laura took on increasingly senior roles—eventually serving as Market Leader in Vancouver, Western Canadian Market Leader, and ultimately Canadian Leader. She has played a key role in shaping WTW Canada’s strategy, people, and client relationships.

Driving change, embracing evolution

WTW has changed significantly since Laura joined – from a smaller, private firm where local offices operated more independently to the multinational company that it is today. Through mergers, name changes, and global expansion, Laura remained at the forefront of change.

She helped lead the business through major transitions, ensuring that culture and colleague engagement remained strong. “What hasn’t changed,” she says, “is our commitment to developing colleagues and delivering the highest quality service to our clients.” Her impact has been broad: from recruiting and mentoring top talent, to managing key client relationships and driving growth through business development. Her leadership helped WTW evolve while staying true to its values.

Lessons in leadership

Having led through different phases of our firm, Laura learned the power of communication. For her, clear, transparent leadership—especially during change—is essential to building trust and alignment.

She encourages the next generation of leaders at WTW to say yes to opportunities, even those outside their comfort zones. “You don’t need to know everything—just be willing to learn and ask for input,” she says. “And then play it forward by helping others around you succeed.”

People first: relationships that last

One of the most meaningful parts of Laura’s journey? The people.
“Relationships with colleagues have meant the world to me and have shaped who I am today,” she shares. Throughout her time at WTW, she collaborated with teams across nearly every part of the business—and built friendships that will last well into retirement.

A culture that supports growth

When asked what makes WTW a special place to build a long-term career, Laura points to the company’s focus on people development. “WTW believes in supporting colleagues to be the best they can be. Our business is so broad that you can take on new challenges and keep learning throughout your career.”

Looking ahead

As she embarks on this next chapter, Laura is excited to spend more time outdoors—mountain biking, hiking, skiing—and enjoying adventures with her family. And while she’s closing this professional chapter, the legacy she leaves at WTW will continue to inspire.

“If I had to describe my career in one word, it would be enriching. My time at WTW and the relationships I’ve built have brought me joy and pride. I’ll carry that with me into this next phase.”

Thank you, Laura, for 35 incredible years. Your impact will be felt for many more to come.
