Hubert’s journey into insurance wasn’t a straight line. Coming from an engineering background, he was drawn by the challenge of analytical problem-solving, and a previous internship sparked his fascination with how data, risk, and business come together. Choosing WTW’s graduate program gave him the ideal environment to explore that interest within a global, client-focused company.
The Value of Training and Real-Life Experience
Hubert appreciated how WTW’s program balanced foundational technical training with practical application. While formal courses provided the essential knowledge on insurance principles and client servicing, it was the chance to engage in real broking scenarios and receive ongoing mentorship that truly enhanced his learning experience. He reflects, “The training on risk placement, insurance fundamentals, and client servicing helped me build a strong base,” emphasizing the importance of hands-on exposure alongside theory.
Leadership and growth opportunities
Taking a leadership role beyond his core responsibilities, Hubert led the IMPACT Team in Singapore, focusing on initiatives like employee wellness, inclusion, and corporate social responsibility.
This experience broadened his skills in managing people and stakeholders, allowing him to contribute to WTW’s culture and develop key leadership abilities. He describes it as “rewarding to drive programs that shaped the culture of the office while developing leadership and stakeholder management skills outside of my usual broking responsibilities.”

Learning from Teamwork and Mentorship
Throughout his program, Hubert benefited from the guidance of experienced colleagues who helped him balance the technical precision required in risk assessment with effective communication and relationship building. Their mentorship shaped his approach to complex insurance challenges and client interactions. As he explains, “I’ve learned how to approach complex risk scenarios thoughtfully and how to communicate with clients and insurers effectively. The willingness of senior colleagues to mentor and guide me has also shaped how I approach learning and growth."
How the Program Prepared Hubert for His Current Role
Hubert reflects, “The program gave me a solid technical foundation and boosted my confidence in client interactions.” Beyond this, the structured environment of the program exposed him to varied client cases and collaborative projects, allowing him to apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways. This blend of learning and real-world application was instrumental in helping him transition smoothly into his role as a Singapore Retail broker, where both technical expertise and interpersonal skills are key.
