Guillaume Deschamps has spent more than a decade helping to shape the  Financial, Professional and Executive Risks (FINEX) practice at WTW in France and Luxembourg. Based in Paris, Guillaume is currently Head of FINEX for both markets and has been with WTW since February 2016. Guillaume brings both long-term perspective and sustained energy to his role.

Starting at WTW 10 years ago

Reflecting on his decision to join the business, Guillaume explains that timing and opportunity played a crucial role. “When I decided to join WTW, formerly Gras Savoye, it was to contribute to the development of the FINEX practice in France at a very pivotal moment,” he says. The acquisition of Gras Savoye by Willis, followed closely by the merger with Towers Watson, created what Guillaume describes as “a great project of new dynamic, based on a new group organization.”

For Guillaume, the appeal was clear: the chance to help build something new. “We suddenly had access to a combination of new expertise, resources, cultures and footprints,” he explains. “We had a strong story to share with colleagues, clients and business partners and a new value proposition to bring to the market.”

More than ten years later, that momentum has not faded. “This dynamic is still very much in progress,” Guillaume notes. “There are still unexplored areas of expertise we can share with our clients, which will allow us to continue building the future of WTW in France while capitalizing on our strong foundations.”

Working with colleagues across the globe

One of the aspects of WTW that makes Guillaume particularly proud is the way teams collaborate across borders. “The very strong and effective collaboration between teams from different countries is what I value most,” he says. “It allows us to collectively raise the bar in terms of expertise, knowledge, service and innovation.”

This international mindset is not just an ambition, it is something Guillaume experiences daily. “Acting as ‘One WTW’ is a reality in FINEX,” he explains. “It is what has allowed us to be selected by large international clients who are looking for a truly global insurance broker, while still benefiting from the support of strong, recognized local teams.”

Culture and opportunties that work hand-in-hand

When asked about his own development, Guillaume is clear that WTW’s culture and people have played a defining role. “WTW is a great company to work for because of its culture, its history and its resources: but above all, because of its people,” he says. “They are the ones who make the business and contribute to our collective success.”

Throughout his career at WTW, Guillaume has felt supported in growing his role and responsibilities. “WTW has always taken my professional aspirations and strengths into account,” he explains. “I’ve been given opportunities to develop my skills and evolve my responsibilities in ways that allow me to contribute meaningfully to our business and global performance.”

Advice for those wanting to follow in Guillaume’s footsteps

For those considering starting their journey at WTW, Guillaume’s advice is both practical and thoughtful. “Be proactive in building your internal network” he says. “It helps you quickly understand how the organization works and the true power of our global platform.”

He also encourages curiosity and commercial awareness. “Ask why things are done a certain way, understand the client impact (not just technical delivery) and stay curious about broader market trends around risk, people and capital.” Above all, Guillaume emphasizes the importance of values: “Embrace WTW’s culture and values in practice. They really matter.”
