Catastrophe Risk Analyst

In this role, the individual will work closely with Brokers in the Global Markets Direct and Facultative team to deliver market leading analytics. The Direct & Fac Data and Analytics team offer a wide range of analytical support to the broking team in order to secure the best results for our clients. Typical analytical support includes data management, catastrophe modelling, exposure management, financial modelling, and bespoke analytics. The focus of our team is to provide brokers with a deeper understanding of their client’s risk from natural and man-made perils, in turn calculating premium indications from such analysis.

On a day-to-day basis, the individual will be responsible for leading the Large & Complex catastrophe modelling team in processing and auditing client data, running client portfolios against state-of-the-art catastrophe models, synthesising the results and demonstrating strong engagement with the broking team. 

They will be required to take a methodical approach to problem solving and be proactive in meaningfully contributing to the success of D&F. They will also need excellent management skills as they oversee the prioritization and timing of account analysis, ensuring both timely and best in class deliveries. Joining the company with a maths, statistics, engineering or natural sciences degree (ideally Masters), they also require the ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership and lead the delivery of a team.
 

The Role:

The individual will be expected to perform as a part of their role:

• Managing the workflow and timeframes of delivery of large clients both new and renewal.
• Quantify the catastrophe risk using vendor catastrophe models
• Quantify the non-catastrophe risk using proprietary modelling methods
• Operation of geo-visualisation tools including Arc GIS
• Understand and evaluate the impact of updates and revisions to models and the outputs produced
• Communicate results effectively to all stakeholders (i.e. modellers / brokers / clients / (re)insurers)
• Work closely with all stakeholders throughout the risk quantification process
• Real-time reporting and analysis of natural catastrophes

• Proven track record of exceeding performance expectations
• Highly proactive, with a passion to deliver industry-leading results
• Extensive years of experience working directly in a broking or underwriting team
• Track record of delivering property facility analytics 
• A natural team-leader, committed to close collaboration with colleagues across the department
• Experience in at least one vendor model
• Strong academic qualifications in mathematics or science
• Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail
• Excellent IT skills, along with Python and SQL
• Experience with process optimisation
• Experience and working knowledge of GIS software e.g. ArcGIS, an advantage
• Ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively
• Highly motivated to learn and grow within a global market leader
