The Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Compliance Business Partner, you will play a key role in maintaining a strong, independent, and effective Compliance framework across our Corporate Risk & Broking and Health, Wealth & Career businesses in Portugal.

In this role, you will be responsible for Compliance activities in Portugal across Corporate Risk & Broking — all global lines of business and Business Enablers — and Health, Wealth & Career — all businesses (together referred to as “the Relevant Business”). From day one, you will take ownership of your responsibilities, gaining exposure to a wide range of business activities and stakeholders. 

What will you do?

Compliance Advisory, Governance, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a Compliance Business Partner across the Relevant Business, providing pragmatic, risk-based advice, challenge, and oversight.
  • Partner with business management to define and implement Compliance strategy and governance.
  • Advise on ethical standards, ‘tone from the top’, and the Code of Conduct.
  • Review and challenge new products, services, transactions, operational changes, and procedures from a Compliance perspective.
  • Provide input on First Line of Defence quality assurance models and ad-hoc Compliance projects.
  • Maintain records in line with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Serve as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), managing AML/CTF programs, training, and regulatory compliance in Portugal.
  • Investigate potential breaches of regulatory or Compliance requirements, develop corrective actions, and track implementation.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulators and supervisory authorities (e.g., ASF, MENAC) and ensure timely, accurate regulatory reporting.
  • Represent WTW in industry associations and relevant groups.
  • Act as a trusted, professional Compliance Business Partner, proactively engaging with the business to embed a strong compliance culture and champion the Three Lines of Defence model.
  • Support operational management in implementing effective regulatory risk management practices and ensure proper reporting of risk-related information.
  • Foster close collaboration with Legal, Risk, Internal Audit, and other key functions.

Compliance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Conduct monitoring activities in line with the annual Compliance Plan and on an ad-hoc basis, ensuring remedial actions are taken and material issues are escalated.
  • Support Excellence Reviews, focusing on compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Report compliance metrics, records, and information for stakeholders and internal/external audits.

Compliance Risk Management and Training

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective and independent Compliance Function. 
  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely response to new or changing legislation. 
  • Ensure policies, procedures, systems, and controls meet regulatory and compliance requirements. 
  • Manage compliance actions and support audit and regulatory recommendations. 
  • Identify and deliver compliance training across the business. 
  • Develop and deliver the annual Compliance Plan and related communications.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks and corporate governance, ideally within the insurance and/or financial services sector.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, under pressure, and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with a pragmatic and risk-based approach to compliance management.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with regulatory developments.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a robust compliance culture and high ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates high levels of integrity and professionalism at all times.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to take initiative.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Native Portuguese speaker with fluent English required; Spanish and/or Italian are a plus
