Description

The Surety Claims Manager is responsible for the effective management, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of surety bond claims across Mexico. This role ensures claims are handled in accordance with contractual obligations, applicable regulations, and company guidelines while protecting the organization's financial interests and maintaining strong relationships with clients, brokers, principals, obligees, legal advisors, and internal stakeholders.

Beyond claims management, the role serves as a key enabler of Surety business growth by supporting client retention, strengthening WTW's value proposition, and enhancing carrier relationships. Through proactive guidance during bond execution, claims prevention strategies, and effective claims resolution, the role contributes directly to client satisfaction, renewal outcomes, and new business opportunities. The position also provides strategic support during RFP processes by demonstrating WTW's claims expertise and advocacy capabilities, while leveraging claims performance to strengthen negotiations with preferred surety carriers.

The Role

  • Lead the management, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of surety bond claims across Mexico, ensuring claims are handled in line with contractual obligations, applicable regulations, and WTW guidelines.

  • Act as the technical lead for Surety Claims in Mexico, providing expert guidance to clients, brokers, principals, obligees, legal advisors, carriers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Protect client and organizational interests by assessing liability, coverage, exposure, recovery potential, and resolution strategies for complex, high-value, or litigated claims.

  • Support client retention and business growth by delivering proactive claims advocacy, minimizing claim-related disruption, and strengthening WTW’s Surety value proposition.

  • Contribute to RFPs, prospect meetings, and client presentations by demonstrating WTW’s claims expertise, market insight, and advocacy capabilities.

  • Partner with preferred surety carriers to support effective claims resolution, capacity discussions, service standards, portfolio performance, and market positioning.

  • Promote governance, compliance, and continuous improvement by maintaining accurate claims documentation, sharing trends and lessons learned, and supporting best practices across the Surety practice.
  • Define departmental objectives collaboratively with the team, ensuring alignment, engagement, accountability, and measurable contribution to business goals.

Qualifications

The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Insurance, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional insurance qualifications and/or Surety-related certifications are desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of claims management experience, preferably within Surety.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mexican surety market, including claims practices, legal considerations, carrier dynamics, and client expectations.
  • Experience handling complex, high-value, and litigated claims, including liability, coverage, exposure, recovery, and settlement analysis.
  • Proven ability to review contracts and legal documentation and translate technical findings into practical business recommendations.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Client-focused mindset with the ability to build trusted relationships and deliver high-quality advisory support.
  • Results-oriented approach with sound decision-making, problem-solving capability, attention to detail, resilience, and adaptability.
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to partner effectively with internal teams, carriers, brokers, legal advisors, and senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced English proficiency is desirable.
  • Ability to monitor success through operational, financial, client, business growth, and carrier relationship indicators, including claims resolution cycle time, SLA compliance, recovery rate, client satisfaction, retention support, RFP participation, and carrier service improvement.
