Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Risk Engineering, North America to lead and expand our Property Risk Engineering function within the Risk Control and Claims Advocacy Practice. This executive level role is responsible for driving technical excellence, leading a high performing team of engineers, and delivering measurable impact on client outcomes and business profitability across the region.

This role combines deep technical expertise in property risk engineering with enterprise leadership, commercial accountability, and operational oversight.

The Role

Operating at the center of WTW’s Corporate Risk and Broking business in North America, the role partners closely with brokerage, analytics, and global engineering teams to deliver integrated, client focused solutions that enhance risk quality and improve Total Cost of Risk outcomes. A critical aspect of the position is maintaining and strengthening relationships with WTW’s large and complex accounts. The role acts as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders and ensures consistent, high quality engagement across the lifecycle of property insurance programs.

The position requires a strong presence in key client interactions, including supporting renewals, guiding risk strategy, and reinforcing WTW’s value proposition through insight driven engineering expertise. In addition to leading client delivery, the Head of Risk Engineering is accountable for building, developing, and retaining a high performing team while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability.

The role also drives innovation in the use of risk analytics and engineering standards, ensuring consistency in technical quality while responding to evolving market and client needs. By leveraging WTW’s global network, the position enables seamless cross border service delivery and contributes to the firm’s growth and market differentiation.

This is a highly visible leadership role that requires a balance of strategic vision, commercial acumen, and hands on engagement. Success is defined by the ability to grow the business, deepen client relationships, particularly with priority accounts, and elevate the impact of risk engineering across North America.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management
• Lead, develop, and manage a geographically dispersed team of risk engineers across North America
• Establish performance goals, career development pathways, and succession planning
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence
• Allocate resources effectively to meet client demands and business priorities

Business Management
• Own responsibility for driving revenue growth through the Risk Engineering function in North America
• Develop and execute business plans to improve revenue performance and profitability
• Identify new market opportunities, consulting offerings, and innovations
• Partner with sales and brokerage teams to support business development and client retention

Client and Technical Advisory
• Serve as a trusted advisor to key clients on property risk exposures, including fire, explosion, and natural catastrophe perils such as wind, flood, and earthquake
• Provide oversight for complex risk engineering engagements and large global client portfolios
• Guide clients in reducing Total Cost of Risk through effective mitigation strategies
• Review and interpret risk control analytics, carrier reports, and underwriting surveys

Technical Excellence and Standards
• Ensure consistent application of engineering standards, including NFPA, FM Global Data Sheets, and IFC
• Oversee the quality of risk assessments, site surveys, and technical deliverables
• Support evaluation of fire protection systems, construction plans, and high hazard occupancies
• Promote innovation in the use of risk analytics tools, including catastrophe modeling and valuation platforms

 

Qualifications

The Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum of 12 to 15 years of property risk engineering experience, including leadership responsibilities
• Demonstrated experience managing teams or business units with profit and loss accountability
• Deep expertise in highly protected risks and large commercial property programs
• Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, FM Global standards, and fire protection systems
• Experience with risk analytics tools, including catastrophe modeling and property valuation platforms

Leadership Profile

• Proven ability to lead and inspire technical teams at scale
• Strong commercial mindset with experience driving revenue and profitability
• Executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and clients
• Strategic thinker with strong problem solving capability
• Excellent communication and client engagement skills

Additional Requirements

• Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, matrixed organization
• Willingness to travel approximately 20 percent annually
• Experience supporting large, complex, multinational clients
