Description

The Investment business aims to create sustainable competitive advantage for clients in their investment portfolios. This is delivered to clients by providing expert advice on their investments and decision-making processes, making investment decisions on their behalf through delegated investment services and providing investment tools. Our clients are a diverse range of institutional investors, including corporate pension plans, defined contribution plans, and more. As a trusted partner to over 1,200 clients, we advise on over $3.5 trillion of global assets.

The Role

You will be part of a collaborative global Real Assets research team, working alongside some of the industry’s top researchers, portfolio managers, and consultants. In this role, you will focus on real assets, investments in tangible asset classes such as real estate, infrastructure, natural resources, and other private markets. Key aspects of the role include:

  •  Manager Research and Due Diligence: Following WTW’s rigorous manager research process to assess and form opinions on investment managers and funds in the real assets space. You will conduct due diligence on prospective investment managers globally, evaluating their strategies, track records, teams and risk profiles.
  • Monitoring & Ongoing Research: Keeping abreast of existing real asset managers in our portfolios by monitoring performance, portfolio developments, and organizational updates. You will prepare research updates and contribute to manager rating assessments, ensuring our views remain current and well-supported.
  • Portfolio Management Support: Contributing to the management of portfolios that invest in real assets, including our real assets fund-of-funds and real assets-only client mandates. Working with senior portfolio managers, you will help analyze portfolio exposures and diversification, review asset allocation within real assets, and assist in making investment decisions.
  • Client & Team Collaboration: Partnering with colleagues across the Investments team to deliver best-in-class solutions. You will help prepare materials for internal Investment Committee discussions and for client meetings, summarizing research findings and portfolio updates. Over time, you will have opportunities to present your analysis and recommendations to consultants and clients.
  • Innovation and Special Projects: Enhancing our research approach by contributing to broader projects or thought leadership initiatives within the Real Assets team or the wider Investments business. This might include improving research frameworks, exploring new emerging asset sectors, or developing tools to analyze real asset investments more effectively.

This role offers a breadth of exposure across different real asset classes and geographies. You will gain experience with a variety of investment strategies (for example: core and opportunistic real estate funds, infrastructure equity or debt funds, natural resource funds, etc.), building a strong foundation in alternative investments. We support our early-career associates in developing both technical and soft skills through training, project work across different functions, and networking with colleagues globally. This breadth of experience will help you discover which areas of investments you find most compelling and pave the way for further specialization if desired. There are also opportunities to contribute to developing our intellectual capital and other business initiatives over time.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (completed or nearing completion) in a relevant field (e.g. finance, economics, business, or similar). 0–3 years of work experience in investment research, asset management, financial analysis or a related field.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. Comfortable working with datasets and quantitative analysis; familiarity with Excel or other analytical tools is expected.
  • Team Player: Proactive, collaborative attitude with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Eager to learn from others and contribute to group objectives.
  • Communication: Clear and confident communicator, both in writing and verbally. Able to distil complex information into insightful summaries and present findings to colleagues or clients in a professional manner.
  • Project Management: Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, demonstrating ownership of tasks and reliability in delivery.
  • Interest in Investments: A general interest in financial markets and particularly in real assets investing. Up-to-date awareness of economic and market trends is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in standard business software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Ability to quickly learn proprietary tools and research databases.
  • Professional Qualifications: Progress toward or intention to pursue relevant certifications such as CFA or CAIA, is highly regarded. We value commitment to professional development. (Candidates who have already attained any of these qualifications are also strongly encouraged to apply.)
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis (WTW cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role).
  • Location Flexibility: This is a hybrid role, so candidates should be based near Chicago, New York, or Philadelphia, and able to commute to the office at least three days a week. No significant travel is required for this role (occasional business travel for team meetings or conferences may occur, but is not a regular expectation).
