Paras Dua is an Actuarial Analyst in the Retirement Consulting team at WTW in India. He joined the Graduate Program looking for a role where he could build strong technical skills while gaining exposure to client-facing work.

Since starting his career, he has worked across a range of pension and employee benefit projects, developing both his actuarial expertise and consulting skills.

Taking on real responsibility from the start

One of the things that stood out to Paras early on was the level of responsibility given to graduates. As he explains, “I was involved in live client projects much earlier than I had expected and had the opportunity to learn directly from experienced colleagues.”

Working alongside experienced team members and contributing to meaningful projects from the start helped accelerate his learning and build confidence in a client-facing environment.

Building expertise across technical and client work

Initially, Paras works on actuarial valuations, accounting disclosures and experience analysis for pension and employee benefit schemes across different countries.

Over time, his responsibilities have grown significantly. What began as supporting project teams has evolved into independently managing client projects, leading discussions, reviewing outputs and taking ownership of deliverables from start to finish.

Variety that keeps you learning

A key highlight of Paras’s graduate role is the variety of work. Some projects require deep technical analysis, while others focus more on client discussions and problem-solving.

Working across different clients, industries and geographies means there is always something new to learn, whether it’s a different regulatory environment or a unique client challenge.

Building confidence from day one

Support has been a consistent part of Paras’s experience. From day one, he has worked in a collaborative team where colleagues are approachable and willing to help, creating an environment where he could build confidence from the get-go.

Alongside this, WTW has enabled his actuarial qualification through structured study policies, including exam leave and access to learning resources. Mentorship has also played an important role, helping him strengthen his technical skills and develop his approach to working with clients.

“Having experienced colleagues to learn from made a huge difference early on. There was always someone available to guide me, whether it was technical work, preparing for client meetings or managing priorities.”, shared Paras.

Lessons that shape your approach

Looking back, one of the key lessons Paras highlights is that it’s normal not to have all the answers when starting out. He says, “Most of your learning happens on the job, and asking questions is one of the fastest ways to grow.” Growth comes from being curious, open to feedback and willing to take ownership of your development.

He also emphasises that success in consulting isn’t just about technical expertise. Communication, attention to detail and building trust with clients are equally important.
