The Role

The Senior Financial Accountant will act as primary subject-matter expert on all financial reporting matters as well as involvement in preparing statutory reporting.

This is a pivotal role required to ensure ongoing process improvement and control over key areas of the balance sheet and to ensure consistency between systems.

Involved in tax, audit, compliance and group reporting activities, attention to detail will be paramount in ensuring best practices are maintained

Interaction with the business and build relationships and support the business to achieve its financial targets.

Assist as required with the Accounts Payable function.

 

Key responsibilities

Process management and control

  • Ensuring consistency between the company’s primary operating systems and the general ledger at each reporting period, including
    • Reconciliation of detailed reports to reported information
    • Preparation/ review of related journal entries
    • Development of efficiency and consistency by the alignment of corresponding processes
  • Maintenance of controls
    • Review, reconciliation and interpretation of data
    • Working with the operations team towards reporting and continuous improvements
    • Risk mitigation
    • Banking function
    • Manage the Intercompany process
  • Business Partnering
    • Build and maintain relationships with the business, internal stake holders and support services and facilitate achieving targets and KPIs.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Manage and ensure the efficient running of the AP function
    • Accountable for implementing Accounts Payable self-service model

Statutory reporting and tax

  • Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts
    • Preparation of audit work papers
    • Liaison with internal and external audit functions
  • Assisting in the calculation and recording of Direct & Indirect taxes
    • Preparation & filing of Indirect Taxes for the Pacific Practice and the NZ business.
    • Provision of relevant supporting information to tax advisors
    • Assisting in the annual reconciliation of NRT & other Tax Returns.

Internal reporting and reconciliation

  • Preparation of balance sheet analytical review
  • Cash flow statement preparation
  • Provision of requested information to group functions
  • All other related duties

Qualifications

The Requirements

  • The successful candidate will possess an appropriate accountancy qualification and be able to demonstrate experience in maintaining and enhancing key financial controls.
  • An ability to seek out solutions through working with others, process design and detailed knowledge of underlying systems.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Clarity and accuracy of working papers.
  • Independent problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence with Excel including the ability to both interpret and interrogate data and to summarise in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven good presentation skills
  • Proven good interpersonal skills with confidence to interact and resolve challenging issues.
