Emma’s journey to WTW began during her business studies at the University of Arizona, where she discovered her passion for roles that combine relationship-building with analytical thinking. Her summer internship with WTW’s FINEX team confirmed that WTW’s unique culture and dynamic Corporate Risk and Broking (CRB) segment were the ideal fit for her professional ambitions.
Why Emma chose to join WTW’s early careers program
Emma was drawn to the insurance industry because it offers a compelling blend of client engagement and analytical challenges. While exploring career options, she found that WTW consistently stood out for its culture and opportunities.
She explains, “During my summer internship with the FINEX team in the Corporate Risk and Broking segment, I saw firsthand what made WTW such a great place to work.” That experience cemented her decision to join the two-year Graduate Development Program, a crucial step toward launching her career.
Embracing training and building networks
Since joining the Graduate Development Program in 2023, Emma has gained valuable exposure by working with the Multinational Client Management team. The program stands out for its access to senior leaders and its vibrant community of peers, which has been instrumental in helping Emma navigate the transition from university to the corporate world. She highlights "The GDP program is a standout experience for early-career professionals—it offers direct access to senior leaders and connects you with a strong peer network of recent graduates across CRB teams. This was vital in the transition to corporate life post college."
A memorable milestone: New hire orientation
One of Emma’s most memorable experiences was attending New Hire Orientation in New Jersey. Because her cohort is spread across North America, this was a rare chance to meet many colleagues in person for the first time. She recalls, “We heard directly from senior leaders, engaged in panel discussions, and took part in valuable networking sessions.” This event not only deepened her understanding of the company but also helped her build lasting relationships with peers and mentors.
Lessons from a global team
Working with the Multinational Client Management team has given Emma insight into the complexities of global insurance regulations and the value of international collaboration. She appreciates how WTW’s global network operates seamlessly to support clients worldwide. Emma reflects on her team’s dynamic, saying, “I’m incredibly grateful for my team—they’ve been instrumental in my growth over the past two years, always ready to answer questions and offer support.” This environment has been essential to her ongoing learning and development.
Developing skills for the future
Emma reflects that the Graduate Development Program “has provided me with countless opportunities to grow professionally—especially in public speaking.” She has embraced these chances by moderating and participating in panel discussions, as well as presenting project work to senior leadership, experiences that have significantly boosted her confidence.
Beyond public speaking, Emma also found rewards in mentorship, sharing "The program has connected me with incredible mentors across the country and also given me the chance to pay it forward by mentoring newer graduates and interns."
