How WTW’s Internship Program shaped Celeste's path

May 19 2025

When Celeste Kan joined WTW’s Internship Program, she was looking for more than just industry experience, she was looking for a place to learn, connect, and grow. What she found was an environment full of opportunity, support, and practical learning that helped shape her into the professional she is today. Here's a look at her journey, reflections, and advice for those considering taking a similar path.

A culture that stood out from the start

When choosing where to apply, Celeste was clear about what mattered most to her: a company with a reputation for excellence and a culture where she could belong.

“I chose to apply to WTW because of its inclusive and dynamic culture,” she explained. “As an intern, I want to explore more opportunities and understand that WTW is a well-known consulting firm with top-notch expertise where I can grow and thrive.”

This balance between a supportive environment and a high-performing business was exactly what she was looking for. From day one, she knew she was in a place where she could truly develop.

mentorship that made a lasting impact

What stood out most during her internship wasn’t just what she was asked to do, it was how she was taught to do it. Celeste found that her colleagues were genuinely invested in her growth, providing the kind of tailored guidance that made complex concepts easier to grasp.

“I enjoyed the detailed, one-on-one teaching from colleagues,” Celeste shares. “They covered everything from day-to-day operations to technical details, allowing me to gain a deep understanding of the theory behind the job rather than just focusing on routine tasks.”

This hands-on approach gave her more than just knowledge, it helped her see the bigger picture and feel equipped to apply it with confidence.

Turning exam preparation into a supported journey

Professional exams can be a challenging part of an interns career, but Celeste never felt like she was facing them alone. What could have been a stressful time became one of her favourite experiences in the programthanks to the generosity and encouragement of those around her.

“A highlight of my experience was preparing for professional exams,” she shares. “Colleagues shared study resources and notes, which helped me feel more equipped. They also organized small study groups to encourage continuous learning, boosting my confidence for the exams and allowing me to bond with my peers.”

It wasn’t just about passing exams, it was about being part of a community that grows and succeeds together.

Learning from experience: real insight from real work

The opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues gave Celeste a deeper appreciation for the ‘why’ behind the work. Through active involvement in meaningful discussions, she developed an in-depth understanding that shape real decisions.

“I learned a great deal about regulatory details and the rationale behind them in a real working environment,” she explained. “For example, I gained insight into the reasons for setting different assumptions and how to explain them effectively.”

This exposure helped her move beyond textbook knowledge and start thinking like a professional in the field.

Advice for future interns: take initiative and embrace support

Reflecting on her journey, Celeste encourages others to make the most of the opportunity by staying curious, seeking feedback, and getting involved.

“I would advise people considering an early career opportunity at WTW to embrace every learning experience and seek out mentorship,” she said. “The supportive environment fosters growth, so be proactive in asking questions and taking on challenges.”

In her experience, those who lean into the program get the most out of it and often, much more than they expect.
