    Description

    The legal department is responsible for advising on legal issues that arise in the course of business, ranging from litigation and claims, commercial and corporate transactions and contracts to employment laws, compliance and regulatory issues. We provide seamless legal support on a global basis, with professional staff located in numerous countries around the world, including India.

    WTW is seeking a junior lawyer to join the India legal team in its Gurgaon or Mumbai office, reporting to the Head of Legal, Asia-Pacific.  The primary focus of the role is to support and work closely with the legal team, assist in providing high quality commercial legal advice, counsel and support to the Risk & Broking and Health, Wealth & Career business segments in India.  The successful candidate should be comfortable working with internal business teams and external parties in order to support the handling of a broad workload. The role requires the application of a high level of attention to detail and focus, combined with a strong commitment to helping the business succeed whilst maintaining and projecting solid ethical values.  There will be focus on the following areas of work: commercial contract reviews and drafting, assisting with regulatory advice, cross-border transactions, assisting with professional indemnity claims and other litigation, advising on new products and sales initiatives.  There may also be opportunities for involvement with employment matters and special projects including M&A transactions.  The successful candidate will be an exemplary team player and be able to prioritize competing demands effectively.  The said candidate will need to be proactive and highly organized and should be able to communicate effectively and confidently with people at all levels of the organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide and support the timely provision of practical legal advice and services to the Risk & Broking and Health, Wealth & Career business segments in India.
    • Efficiently manage a large volume of matters, negotiate numerous standard and complex corporate and commercial agreements for the company’s business operations while balancing appropriate legal, regulatory and business risks.
    • Support the team in the conduct of litigation. 
    • Work closely with the compliance team in providing regulatory, licensing and other compliance advice to the business.
    • Cooperate with the privacy team in providing privacy-related advice and solutions to the business.
    • Work with corporate teams (e.g. client development, marketing, IT, HR, Finance, etc.) to achieve business objectives.
    • Support commercial and other legal needs of the company’s business operations in India while remaining as a member of the Asia-Pacific legal team and being part of a global legal department serving a global organization.
    • Work with our employment law and investigations teams on employment and investigations issues.

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • An Indian national who is qualified to practice as a lawyer in any common law jurisdiction.
    • Good knowledge of and experience in insurance-related areas of the law and regulations, preferably in the insurance broking and/or insurance consultancy arena.
    • Strong academic credentials and work experience gained from a leading law firm and/or in-house environment in a multi-national company.
    • At least 3 years post-qualification experience.
    • Must be an enthusiastic and a commercially-oriented team player, with an ability to quickly comprehend the company’s business operations and legal needs.
    • Highly developed written and oral communication skills in English.
    • Highly analytical and skilled at providing pragmatic commercial advice to the business. 
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork, to maintain effective working relationships and to gain respect of senior management. 
    • Ability to work independently, analyze, summarize key legal and business issues and alternatives for executive decisions. 
    • Results-focused; able to work in fast-paced, deadline oriented environment. 
    • Self-starter and independent/strategic thinker.
    • Above all, a team player who wants to work for the benefit of all.
