Description
As a Global Specialty Director you will be based in the UK P&C Consulting Practice but you will have global accountability across the Global Specialty market throughout Insurance Consulting & Technology.
You will work beside some of the market’s top thought leaders designing and implementing cutting-edge solutions across the full proposition suite – covering capital, reserving, trading, portfolio and exposure management, pricing and underwriting challenges faced by the world’s leading specialty insurers.
In your role you will be helping our clients improve their business by developing as well as leading the deployment of consulting and technology solutions:
- Helping clients re-imagine how their business could operate to take advantage of emerging technologies, data assets and trading trends
- Optimising their capital, reserving, trading, pricing and underwriting strategies and approaches including:
- How they can better match risk to capital
- Understand and react to the drivers of risk performance
- More effective deployment of capital to the business
- Delivering strategic capability reviews and transformation engagements
- Helping to build effective “next generation” specialty technical models, tools and processes that make best use of the digital assets and capabilities available to insurers
- Design and deploy sophisticated MI and portfolio optimisation capabilities
- Development and deployment of algorithms
- Leading complex client engagements where you will be responsible for building senior stakeholder engagement and trust
- Leveraging your market knowledge in developing cutting edge solutions for commercial lines trading, pricing and underwriting in collaboration with various teams from across WTW
- Bring practical experience of multiple lines of business and what it takes to deliver a strategy within a specialty insurer
- Lead the development of innovative data enrichment ideas to harness capital, reserving, trading, portfolio and exposure management, pricing and underwriting insights and providing support with their implementation.
The Role
Your main responsibilities will be as follows:
Financial and business development
- Take a leading role in developing the Global Specialty strategic growth plan which will be expected to deliver increased sales based on a global go-to-market plan, which will include:
- Business development priorities
- Solution development priorities
- Delivery capability development priorities
- Develop effective sales and marketing campaigns that build awareness of ICT propositions in target clients and geographic hubs
- Manage and develop pipeline of prospects to meet both the consulting and technology sales outcomes for Global Specialty
- Deliver personal sales targets aligned to the objectives of the strategic growth plan and sales/marketing campaigns
- Demonstrate effective relationship building with senior executives in the Global Specialty marketplace
- Meet goals for billable hours and intellectual capital development
- Develop and present proposals to potential clients, demonstrating the economic value of the company’s offerings, often leading a team in these presentations
Operationalise Global Specialty as a matrix within the business
- Connecting our global speciality market practitioners into a global community across regions and technology
- Coordinating the development of cutting edge solutions for this market – which in itself breaks down into:
Consulting solutions/propositions
- Technology-based solutions which leverage capabilities of existing technology
- Working with the Global Proposition Leaders to ensure that the market needs are reflected into the roadmaps
Producing a cogent, connected narrative on how the various ICT initiatives come together for this marketplace
- Coordinating go-to-market activities across the matrix which will include:
Coordinating a global specialty proposition grid (both existing and in development) with targeted application to defined insurers/reinsurers
Regional implementation plans
Clients
- Take personal accountability, including acting as engagement lead or delivery lead, client engagements that are of high strategic value to the Global Specialty mission
- To build a market profile as a representative and advocate of WTW consulting services and software tools, and to play a leading role in the origination of new business to the firm
- Develop a trusted advisor relationship with client contacts through effective leadership of engagements, supported by excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a curiosity and desire to learn, and actively seek to be involved in a variety of work to ensure a broad skill set (technical, management and client) is maintained and developed, and demonstrate an enthusiasm to develop others inside the practice
- Interface with colleagues from other practices and regions on assignments that reflect the client’s broader business issues, and actively build relationships across the wider organisation
- Demonstrate commitment to WTW professional standards in managing analyses and in communications with clients
Thought leadership
- To take a leading role in developing new relevant solutions, propositions and service areas, or to enhance current propositions, leveraging WTW’s toolset and broader intellectual property and resources
- Experience of influencing C-suite and of being able to translate detailed technical outcomes to senior stakeholders
- Take a major leadership or contributing role to the development of the company’s intellectual capital including plans for taking this to market. This will include networking across the whole of WTW as well as externally to develop insights and solutions.
- Have a desire to establish and enhance a public reputation in a chosen specialism through external speaking as well as the production of articles and presentations
People
- Demonstrate experience of team-building, leadership and coaching
- Role model effective relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
- Serve as a manager or mentor to more junior associates
Qualifications
The Requirements
Essential
- Can make significant personal impact in order to drive the global mission
- Clear articulation of emerging trends and how that can create value for our clients
- Relevant experience in a Global Specialty market role (preferably with consultancy experience but insurance company experience welcome)
- A passionate advocate for the development of analytical approaches and the adoption of new techniques
- The ability to see the "big picture”, leveraging the resources of related practices to address the clients' business challenges
- Experience or interest in selling projects to insurance / financial institutions
- A track record in innovation and creativity delivering realised revenue enhancements
- Strong interpersonal and team skills
- Self-starter attitude and ability to work within ambiguity
- Strong analytical and creative skills
- Enjoy training / mentoring junior staff
- Availability to travel on an as needed basis, domestically and internationally
Location: We are open to this role being based in either London or New York.
