At WTW, the Retirement GB Team plays a crucial role in helping clients navigate the complexities of retirement provision.  Our team offers the entire array of actuarial consulting services and solutions, covering both trustee and corporate advice, and our enviable client base means we are at the cutting edge of actuarial advice in GB.  But beyond technical expertise, what truly sets us apart is the vibrant culture that fosters growth, collaboration, and a fulfilling work environment.

WTW truly values diversity and ensures that all colleagues feel included and can bring their whole selves to work.  A well-established structure of career development support helps colleagues to take control of their own career and find the roles which suit their skills and passions. Client and community roles are advertised on a weekly noticeboard with your future career development only being limited by your ambition.

WTW is fully committed to the DB Retirement market, being at the cutting edge of the latest developments such as Collective Defined Contribution schemes, and also investing in the smaller end of the market with our OneDB combined services offering.

Our market-leading training programmes cover not just the technical aspects of the role and all the support that you might need to qualify as an actuary, but also covers the consulting skills required to lead client relationships. Our award-winning Pathfinder programme which ensures that all colleagues get consulting opportunities, is just one example of this focus on wider development.

Hear directly from our colleagues as they share their experiences, development journeys, and what makes life at WTW uniquely rewarding.

    A culture that fosters growth

Joining the Retirement GB Team means stepping into an environment that not only supports professional growth but encourages stepping outside your comfort zone.

“Confidence mostly comes to mind,” says Kiran Mandalia, reflecting on his two years with the team.  “I’ve had enormous opportunities to get outside of my comfort zone, learn new skills, and even qualify after taking a break from exams.  Recently being promoted to Director is proof of how WTW’s environment allows you to thrive.”

George Rees highlights how his development journey has extended beyond technical skills:  “I’ve developed hugely in every area – particularly communication and speaking in front of people.  The opportunities to present to senior colleagues, interact with clients, and even go on secondments have helped me learn to cater to different audiences and ensure advice is understood.”

For others, growth has come through diverse and innovative projects.  “I’ve been able to get stuck into challenging projects, collaborating with colleagues across the UK and globally” shares Chris Wyche.  “These opportunities have been instrumental in my development.”

    Flexibility that fits your life

Our hybrid working model ensures that our retirement consultants and other colleagues can balance their professional and personal lives effectively.

“As a mum of two young children, being able to work from home helps me balance work and family responsibilities,” says Alison Fisher.  “I still love going into the office to interact with colleagues, often walking away with excellent nuggets of wisdom!”

Sophie Weston adds: “The flexibility has allowed me to work from the London office despite being part of the Birmingham office.  This has enabled me to fit work around my life while building connections across different locations.”

For George Rees, flexibility has been a game-changer: “I’ve been able to move closer to family to help raise our child, something I wouldn’t have managed without this model.”

“I’d personally opted for a hybrid working style,” shares Suneet Sidhu.  “I value face-to-face interactions and enjoy seeing office attendance improve, but the hybrid model still allows me to work from home when it suits me.”

    Memories that last a lifetime

“The summer party in Regent’s Park was such a lively event,” recalls Kiran Mandalia. “We even had a tug-of-war match that ended hilariously with our team losing in seconds. The banter afterward was priceless!”

The Retirement GB Team is not just about work; it’s also about creating moments of joy and camaraderie.

For others, team outings and events are a highlight.  “The annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival night out is always memorable,” says Charlotte Jack.  “Pizza, drinks, and lots of laughs – the night is a fantastic way to unwind.”

Chris Wyche reflects on personal milestones: “It was incredibly rewarding to be promoted to Director. Knowing that my hard work is appreciated means a lot, and the social events with my Manchester colleagues have been great too.”

For Suneet Sidhu, cultural exchange was a standout experience: “Being sent to India to train new consultants was amazing.  I embraced a different culture and loved their passion for cricket, which rivals our love for football here!”

    Opportunities to make an impact

Our team members have found not just chances to enhance and build on their technical skills, but opportunities to grow as professionals and as leaders.

“Speaking at the Pensions Perspectives event was incredible,” says Alison Fisher.  “It was nerve-wracking, but discussing risk-sharing schemes with over 100 industry professionals gave me such a buzz.”

Sophie Weston shares how she explored her passions beyond traditional actuarial skills: “Getting involved in climate-related projects has allowed me to develop skills outside my day-to-day responsibilities.”
