At WTW, we believe in the power of a supportive and inclusive workplace. Mark Probee’s story is a testament to this belief. A former British military professional with 23 years of service, Mark shares his inspiring journey of finding a second career at WTW in the Great Britain Construction segment—a place that values military backgrounds and prioritizes the well-being of its employees.
From the Military to Corporate Life
Mark shares that his career path wasn’t a direct transition from the military to WTW. After leaving the service in 2007, he explored various roles before joining WTW more than three and a half years ago. What truly stood out to him was WTW’s commitment to hiring professionals from different backgrounds—individuals from all backgrounds who bring invaluable skills to the corporate world.
“WTW sees real value in military people, which is fantastic. I wasn’t an officer; I was a senior rank in the military. There is so much untapped talent from all levels of the military that could thrive in companies like WTW.”

The Power of Support in Difficult Times
The journey at WTW has been marked not only by career growth but also by personal challenges. In November 2022, Mark underwent a major medical procedure—hip replacement surgery on both hips. Thanks to WTW’s private medical cover, he was able to access treatment quickly and efficiently, allowing him to focus on his recovery.
“The support I received from my bosses and colleagues in the construction team was phenomenal. Knowing that I had the backing of my company gave me peace of mind. It allowed me to get back to full fitness and my gym sessions, which has always been an important part of my life.”

Just a year after his surgery, he challenged himself by competing in the Hyrox fitness event at the Excel Arena in London. Despite the physical demands, he pushed through and even raised sponsorship money toward the military charity Help For Heroes.
Facing a New Battle: Cancer Diagnosis and Workplace Support
Mark’s resilience was tested once again when, in May 2024, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Once more, WTW’s health benefits and workplace flexibility played a critical role in ensuring he could prioritize his health while maintaining his career.
“I used my private health cover through WTW to access treatment, and the process has been incredibly smooth. My response to treatment has been positive, and I’m now in the radiotherapy stage. My bosses have been fantastic—they told me to work from home and do whatever I need to make life easier. That kind of support makes all the difference.”
Not only has WTW’s leadership been understanding, but the company’s HR team has also extended their support along with his immediate team who created an environment where he felt fully supported.

In November 2024, while undergoing cancer treatment, Mark competed again at Hyrox and raised money, this time for Prostate Cancer Research. “I have to admit that it was so much harder this time. I thought it would be easier having done it before, but it was FAR harder.”

The Impact of a Supportive Workplace
Mark Probee’s experience is a testament to how a workplace can profoundly impact an individual’s well-being. His ability to balance work with treatment has reinforced his commitment to WTW, and he believes that companies that respect their employees' needs ultimately build stronger, more loyal teams.
“When an employer shows that kind of flexibility, it makes you want to work harder. It’s not about taking advantage—it’s about mutual respect. I’ve been able to rest when needed, but I also put in the effort to ensure my work is done. That trust and flexibility make all the difference.”
Advocating for Health Awareness
In addition to his work in WTW’s construction team, Mark has taken an active role in raising awareness about men’s health, particularly prostate cancer. He has shared his journey on platforms like LinkedIn to encourage other men to take their health seriously.
“Men often ignore health issues. They don’t talk about them, and they don’t get checked. If my story can help even one person take action and get tested early, then it’s worth sharing.”

A Workplace That Values People
Mark’s journey reflects WTW’s dedication to its employees—not just as professionals, but as individuals. The company’s culture of inclusion, flexibility, and support ensures that employees from all backgrounds, including military veterans, can find not just a career, but a community.
“For me, it’s about dealing with life’s challenges with a positive mindset. And knowing that I have a company that supports me makes it all the easier. WTW isn’t just a workplace; it’s a place where people matter.”
