    Description

    The Business

We know how companies can unlock potential through effective risk management. Our clients rely on us to craft strategies to quantify, mitigate, and transfer risk, taking advantage of our specialist industry experience and unparalleled market know-how. The result is a new way of embracing risk that drives superior results.

    The Role

The Marine Specialist will be responsible for managing service delivery for an assigned client portfolio, working closely with the Japan broking team to identify and develop new business opportunities. The role focuses on ensuring the achievement of the annual sales target, primarily within the marine industry, and contributing to the overall success of the team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Client Management and Business Development

    • Manage the existing portfolio of marine clients, particularly in Shipping, Trading, Logistics, and Terminal operations.
    • Identify and develop new business opportunities and cross-selling prospects with a focus on marine-related industries.
    • Ensure exceptional client experience through proactive interaction, follow-up, and support throughout the entire insurance process.

    Service Delivery and Advisory

    • Provide transactional and advisory services across marine insurance products, including understanding client needs, designing tailored insurance programs, and negotiating terms.
    • Prepare and review relevant documentation (reports, quotes, proposals, contracts) to ensure accuracy and client satisfaction.
    • Negotiate with insurance providers to secure optimal terms and manage policy delivery and contractual documents effectively.

    Collaboration and Leadership

    • Collaborate with WTW Japan, APAC and global brokers and marine experts on risk assessments, program structures, and client training initiatives.
    • Lead bid management, proposal preparation, and presentations for clients and prospects.
    • Support cross-departmental efforts to drive sales and contribute to company growth.

    Client Solutions and Claims Management

    • Work closely with the Japan broking team to resolve client-specific issues and enhance service value.
    • Assist in managing complex marine insurance claims, ensuring effective resolution.

At WTW, we trust you to know your work and the people, tools and environment you need to be successful. The majority of our colleagues work in a ”hybrid” style, with a mix of remote, in-person and in-office interactions dependent on the needs of the team, role and clients. Our flexibility is rooted in trust and “hybrid” is not a one-size-fits-all solution.

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • 10+ years of experience in the marine insurance industry, with a focus on Shipping, Trading, Logistics, or Terminal sectors.
    • Proven ability to deliver high-quality client service in marine insurance.
    • Strong knowledge of account development and marine-specific cross-selling strategies.
    • Solid understanding of marine insurance products (hull, cargo, liability) and market trends.
    • Successful track record in new business development and converting prospects into clients.
    • Strong relationship-building skills with clients, insurers, and partners in the marine sector.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Native-level Japanese and business-level English.
