    The Sustainability Controller will assist the ESG and CSRD specific processes and controls owners and responsible for supporting disclosures on WTW’s environmental, people and community, and governance programs. This requires working cross-functionally with Finance, Corporate Responsibility team members, and various WTW business and function leaders to communicate our programs and progress effectively. 

    The lead will play an integral role in managing sustainability reporting assurance requirements.

    The Role

    The Sustainability Controller will work closely with the Corporate Responsibility team and Finance on all activities.

    • Lead the preparation of assurance documentation, the testing and readiness for complex sustainability disclosure requirements, and ensuring transparency and accountability across various voluntary and mandatory disclosures including CSRD.
    • Lead the assurance process with external auditors as required per global and regional regulatory requirements.
    • Communicate assurance reporting requirements clearly with internal Subject Matter Experts (SME) in Facilities, Finance, HR, IT, Legal, Risk, and Procurement.
    • Assists SME teams in operationalizing internal infrastructure (e.g., policies, processes, controls, and systems).
    • Work as a liaison between internal and external experts including internal and external auditors, regional finance teams, and SMEs supporting the drafting of disclosure components including integrating, implementing, and documenting controls, where necessary.
    • Lead the identification of ESG, CSRD, and related regulations requirements and impact on the current control environment (e.g., leverage the existing internal controls or addition of controls).   
    • Lead workshops on assurance requirements with SMEs and support the creation of the sustainability reporting manual to document all policies, methodologies, and processes as a single source of truth for CSRD reporting.
    • Support drafting, reviewing, and testing documentation to prepare for limited and reasonable audit assurance, as required, alongside SMEs and the Corporate Responsibility team. 
    • Monitor assurance requirements and potential impacts across the business and regions.  
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on assurance requirements for CSRD, ESRS, ISSB, the US SEC Rule, TCFD and developing sustainability regulations. 
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on sustainability assurance by researching and keeping abreast of sustainability accounting standards, programs, frameworks, methodologies and reporting standards.

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
    • Strong understanding of current U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
    • Professional certification such as CPA preferred
    • Strong understanding of internal control environments and Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience (Public accounting and/or corporate SOX or similar experience in a public company)
    • Strong ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, self-manage and prioritize workloads.
    • Proven understanding of CSRD and sustainability regulatory reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, CSRD, ESRS, ISSB, the US SEC Rule, and regional sustainability rules. 
    • Understands the need for change and is comfortable with ambiguous and uncertain situations; easily adapts to changing circumstances or demands and helps others on the team.
    • Detail-oriented, organized and adaptable with solid business and financial acumen.
    • Works easily within and across teams, encourages learning; ensures that all relevant parties are included in key team project tasks and decisions. 
    • Regularly seeks out new opportunities to develop expertise, recognizing the value and importance of development opportunities, acquires and assimilates new knowledge at a fast pace.
    • Is optimistic about what the team can achieve together; emphasizes positives to help other team members, accepts the unknown.
    • Good communicator with excellent all-around listening, writing, editorial and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to learn and adhere to company policies, guidelines and brand standards.
    • Strong analytic and program/project management skills.
    • Experience handling sensitive and confidential issues.
    • Demonstrated technology experience and aptitude, particularly with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook group mailboxes, SharePoint and website management.

     

    Compensation and Benefits

    Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience, performance in the role and potential for revenue generation (Producer roles only).
